How a contract works
- Survey. One of our technicians walks the site, including kitchen, stores, bin area, cellar and front of house, and looks at how pests could get in and where they could feed.
- Agreed schedule. We agree how many routine visits you need each year based on the site, then send you a quote.
- Routine visits. Our technicians check bait stations and monitoring points, inspect the high-risk areas and deal with any activity they find.
- Written report. You get a written service report after every visit to keep with your food safety records.
- Call-outs. If you spot droppings, gnaw marks or insects between visits, call our office and we send a technician out as quickly as possible.
What’s in the report
- Date and time of the visit, and the technician who carried it out
- Areas inspected, such as kitchen, dry stores, cellar, bin store and dining area
- Any activity found, including the pest, where it was seen and how much
- Action taken, such as treatment, bait station checks or removal
- Recommendations on proofing, hygiene, storage and cleaning
- The date of your next routine visit
Keeping your records inspection-ready
When an environmental health officer visits, being able to show what has been done is as important as the work itself. Keep each service report together with your food safety paperwork, note when you have acted on our recommendations, and record any sightings between visits. If something needs fixing, such as a gap behind a unit or a door that does not close properly, the report says so plainly so you can get it sorted.
Questions people ask
Do food businesses have to have pest control in place?
Food businesses are expected to have adequate procedures in place to control pests. A contract with regular visits and written reports is a common and practical way to show you are doing that.
What will an environmental health officer want to see?
Inspectors typically look for evidence that pests are being managed, such as a pest control log, service reports and any action taken. Our written report after every visit gives you that record in one place.
Can you come outside opening hours?
Yes. We can schedule routine visits before you open or after you close, and our office answers 24 hours a day for anything urgent.
Will customers know you are there?
Not if you would rather they did not. On request our technicians arrive in an unmarked vehicle and plain clothes.
What if we see a mouse between visits?
Call 07943 875884. A technician is sent out as quickly as possible, and the call-out is recorded in a written report like any routine visit.
