How we treat rats

Our five-stage external rat programme

Rats outside often live under decking, sheds, vegetation and bin stores. Rather than relying on poison, we work out why they are there and deal with what attracts them, putting prevention and environmentally responsible control first.

  1. Inspection and risk assessment

Activity, nests, food sources and routes into buildings.

    More detail

We inspect the external environment to identify rodent activity, harbourage areas, food sources and potential access routes into buildings.

  2. Identifying attractants

What is drawing them in, from bins to bird feeders.

    More detail

We assess what is encouraging rodent activity, including waste, bird feeding, dense vegetation, drainage defects and concealed nesting areas.

  3. Environmental prevention

Practical changes and proofing to make the site unattractive.

    More detail

We recommend practical preventative measures, including better waste management, vegetation clearance, removing harbourage and structural pest proofing where necessary.

  4. Targeted treatment

Trapping or secure bait stations, safe for pets and wildlife.

    More detail

Where required, we use professional trapping, secure bait stations or other suitable control methods, based on a site-specific risk assessment, minimising risks to residents, pets and wildlife.

  5. Monitoring and prevention

We check it worked and help stop them coming back.

    More detail

We review activity, assess how effective the treatment has been and recommend further preventative measures to reduce the likelihood of rats returning.

We'll tell you which stages your property needs, the price and the guarantee, on the call.

Rats in lofts, walls and kitchens

Rats climb well and use cavity walls, pipe runs and gaps in the roofline to reach lofts. In kitchens they usually come in behind units, where pipes pass through the wall. In London terraces a problem next door often becomes your problem too, which is why proofing matters as much as the treatment itself. Indoors, we find where they are living and how they get in, use tamper-resistant bait boxes or traps placed safely, seal the gaps they use and come back to confirm they have gone.

Signs of rats

  • Scratching or scurrying in the loft, walls or under floors, mostly at night
  • Dark droppings around 1–2 cm long, often in groups along walls
  • Gnaw marks on wood, cables, pipes or food packaging
  • Greasy smear marks along skirting boards and entry holes
  • Burrows in the garden, under sheds or beside decking
  • A strong ammonia smell in enclosed spaces
Keep them out

Prevention tips

  • Keep food, pet food and bird seed in sealed containers
  • Fix leaking pipes and taps, since rats need water every day
  • Clear clutter in lofts, sheds and under decking
  • Use bins with tight lids and keep them away from the house
  • Ask us to check air bricks, pipe entries and gaps under doors

Rats: your questions

How quickly can you get to me?

We cover every London borough and we send a technician out as quickly as possible. Call 07943 875884 and our office will tell you the arrival time before you hang up.

Are the treatments safe for children and pets?

We use tamper-resistant bait boxes placed where children and pets cannot reach them, and we explain exactly where everything is before we leave.

How many visits does it take?

Most rat jobs need an initial treatment and one or two follow-up visits to check activity, top up or remove bait, and confirm the problem has gone.

Can you stop them coming back?

Yes. Finding and sealing the entry points (gaps around pipes, broken air bricks, damaged drains) is part of the job, not an extra.

Do you deal with rats for businesses and landlords?

Yes. We treat commercial premises and rental properties and can set up regular contract visits with a written report after each one.
